Beginner to advanced levels of all disciplines are offered to students
interested in studying dance technique for their own personal
enjoyment. All students in this program learn the same dance skills
offered in the competitive program. C.D.T.A. exams are offered but not
mandatory. Students receive a studio report card and year-end
certificate, as well as special award ribbons upon completing the dance
year. All students are given the opportunity to perform in our annual
spring recital. |

The Competitive program is offered to students age eight and over, who demonstrate strong technical dance skills, and are ready and
willing to take their dance studies further. Students enter this program through the audition process, and can compete in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Acrobatics. Certain enrolement guidelines apply. C.D.T.A. exams are mandatory for ballet, jazz and lyrical students. Students must be
able to handle criticism in a positive way, as they will be judged and
graded by various dance professionals on performance, overall ability
and technical skills. Class work focuses heavily on both technical skill and performance skills, and can be very challenging. These students can expect to be called in for extra rehearsals
as competition dates draw nearer. These students must travel out of
town to compete against other studios throughout the province at least
twice in a dance year. Parents of competitive students can shoulder all
extra expenses, or join the fundraising committee already established.
Students in this program are given several performance opportunities
over and above recital. Competitive students receive a studio report
card and year-end certificate as well as special award ribbons upon
completing the dance year. They will also receive a year-end
Competition Certificate, and any individual awards received or won
during competition (medals, pins, ribbons, plaques, trophies), are
theirs to keep. Choreography, Special Award, and High Score trophies or
plaques for either individual or group routines remain the property of
the studio. Soloist awards may me given to the individual at the
discretion of the instructor.
One Junior (age 8-12), and
one Senior (13+) Scholarship, valued at $600 each is awarded during our
year-end awards banquet to those students who demonstrated
determination, drive and commitment throughout the dance year. These
students will receive a special plaque along with the bursary. A
minimum of eight other deserving students will receive a medal for
their efforts. All studio students, both recreational and competitive,
are equally eligible. Approximately 40 special achievement awards are
handed out annually to both individuals and groups of all ages and
levels. |

Creative
movement class based in ballet offered to preschoolers. Classes are
play orientated, where students learn basic co-ordination movements, and
develop both gross and fine motor skills through a variety of games and
nursery rhymes. The class will progress to actual dance exercises and
terminology towards the end of the year, however the main emphasis is
on participation and developing concentration skills. Classes are 45
minutes. |

The
Russian Method (Vagonova) of ballet is studied, however various
Cecchetti steps and terminology are also taught. Students develop
a strong sense of body awareness and poise, as well as excellent muscle
control and flexibility. All serious dance students should take ballet
class. C.D.T.A. exams Primary to Advanced are offered. Classes are
usually one-hour minimum. |

An
introduction to the very basic and beginning steps in both tap and
modern jazz dancing. Both tap shoes and soft ballet slippers are
required. The course alternates with one week of tap, then one week of
jazz. Tap work is mostly stationary and focuses
a lot on footwork, while jazz allows freedom of movement, focusing on
rhythm and energy. Classes range from 45 minutes to one hour in length.

Beginner
to advanced tap history and terminology are taught. Basic steps
and rhythms to advanced footwork and synchopations are studied. C.D.T.A. examinations
from primary to advance are offered. Students will learn various
tap styles ranging from vaudeville and Broadway to more urban inspired
rhythms. Classes are one-hour minimum. |

Basic
jazz technique, which is similar to a free-form ballet, is the basis of
this course. Urban, Latin and Broadway styles are also taught as
students skills advance. Strong technique and athleticism is
required for more advanced leaps, turns and jumps. The focus in jazz is
on strength, flexibility, rhythm and energy. A good dance form
for the high-energy student. C.D.T.A. exams may be offered at all
levels. Classes are one-hour minimum. |

This
course combines the floor work of gymnastics with the dance styles of
both ballet and jazz. The courses main objective is to increase
muscular flexibility and strength. A demanding and challenging
course physically. All acrobatic students must enroll in one ballet
class. Boys interested in acrobatics must enroll in oneballet or jazz
class. Basic dancewear is required, and students dance barefoot.
Classes are 45 minutes to one hour. There are usually two qualified teachers prresent to teach this course at all times, to insure proper spotting and the safety of our students. |

Once
ballet students have demonstrated a good understanding of proper ballet
technique, they may be allowed, upon the teacher's discretion to join
Pointe class. This is advanced ballet work where the students
learn to execute steps on the tips of their toes. Pointe work is
physically demanding, and some students may have a physical anatomy
that is not suited for this work. Pointe students must take a
minimum of two ballet classes per week, or one ballet and one lyrical
or technique class. Classes are 45 minutes to one hour. |

A
one-hour contemporary dance class. This class concentrates on
expression, energy, movement and space, using the concepts of fall and
rebound, & contract and release. Lyrical is a fusion of
ballet and jazz requiring strong placement control and technique, with
the focus on expression, balance and extension. Students require
regular dancewear, and dance barefoot (foot thongs or half soles can be
used). This class is available to students 12 and up with
previous ballet or jazz training. Students taking lyrical
must also enroll in ballet, jazz, or technique. Classes are one
hour. |

A
fun and energetic urban style of dance available to students 8 and up.
Students learn to keep their center of gravity down instead of up, as
in jazz and ballet. Students will learn basic rhythm and funk
movements, progressing to more difficult styles such as popping,
locking, glides and slides. Hip Hop concentrates on intricate
isolations at a very quick tempo. Basic dancewear is required,
and students wear jazz sneakers. Classes are one hour. |

A
fun and challenging choreography based class focusing on stylized jazz
from a variety of eras. Students learn more intricate
footwork and arm placements. This class focuses on style,
musicality and performance rather than the technical skills associated
with balances, leaps and turns. An excellent addition to any
serious dancers repertoire. All students in this program must
also enroll in one regular jazz class, and must have a minimum of two
years previous jazz training. Classes are one hour. |

An
excellent class for the serious student wanted to get the most out of
his/her training. This is 100% technique, focusing on strength,
flexibility, alignment and balance. These students will spend the
full dance year perfecting various turns, leaps, jumps and dance
tricks, with zero focus on choreography. All technique students
must also enroll in ballet, lyrical or jazz. Classes are one hour. |

This
class is offered twice a week in the mornings and is open to any dancer
or athlete wanting to maximize their performance abilities. It
consists of a well-balanced training program using free weights and
flex-bands to dramatically increase the strength and flexibility of all
major muscle groups. It is a ten-week program that will improve
physical strength and range of motion, while preventing muscular
strain, fatigue and injury. |

A class just for the guys combining the latest break dance, hip
hop and and street style dance moves. We understand that boys and
girls learn differently, and this class is
specifically designed to allow boys to behave and move like boys, catering to
their more athletic and energetic nature. |
