The Competitive program is offered to students age eight and over, who demonstrate strong technical dance skills, and are ready and willing to take their dance studies further. Students enter this program through the audition process, and can compete in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theater and Acrobatics.    Certain enrolement guidelines apply.  C.D.T.A. exams are mandatory for ballet, jazz and lyrical students. Students must be able to handle criticism in a positive way, as they will be judged and graded by various dance professionals on performance, overall ability and technical skills. Class work focuses heavily on both technical skill and performance skills, and can be very challenging. These students can expect to be called in for extra rehearsals as competition dates draw nearer. These students must travel out of town to compete against other studios throughout the province at least twice in a dance year. Parents of competitive students can shoulder all extra expenses, or join the fundraising committee already established. Students in this program are given several performance opportunities over and above recital. Competitive students receive a studio report card and year-end certificate as well as special award ribbons upon completing the dance year. They will also receive a year-end Competition Certificate, and any individual awards received or won during competition (medals, pins, ribbons, plaques, trophies), are theirs to keep. Choreography, Special Award, and High Score trophies or plaques for either individual or group routines remain the property of the studio. Soloist awards may me given to the individual at the discretion of the instructor.

One Junior (age 8-12), and one Senior (13+) Scholarship, valued at $600 each is awarded during our year-end awards banquet to those students who demonstrated determination, drive and commitment throughout the dance year. These students will receive a special plaque along with the bursary. A minimum of eight other deserving students will receive a medal for their efforts. All studio students, both recreational and competitive, are equally eligible. Approximately 40 special achievement awards are handed out annually to both individuals and groups of all ages and levels.

Classes are play orientated, where students learn basic co-ordination movements, and develop both gross and fine motor skills through a variety of games and nursery rhymes. The class will progress to actual dance exercises and terminology towards the end of the year, however the main emphasis is on participation and developing concentration skills. Classes are 45 minutes.

The Russian Method (Vagonova) of ballet is studied, however various Cecchetti steps and terminology are also taught. Students develop a strong sense of body awareness and poise, as well as excellent muscle control and flexibility. All serious dance students should take ballet class. C.D.T.A. exams Primary to Advanced are offered. Classes are usually one-hour minimum.

An introduction to the very basic and beginning steps in both tap and modern jazz dancing.  Both tap shoes and soft ballet slippers are required. The course alternates with one week of tap, then one week of jazz.  Tap work is mostly stationary and focuses a lot on footwork, while jazz allows freedom of movement, focusing on rhythm and energy. Classes range from 45 minutes to one hour in length.

Beginner to advanced tap history and terminology are taught.  Basic steps and rhythms to advanced footwork and synchopations are studied. C.D.T.A. examinations from primary to advance are offered.  Students will learn various tap styles ranging from vaudeville and Broadway to more urban inspired rhythms. Classes are one-hour minimum.

Basic jazz technique, which is similar to a free-form ballet, is the basis of this course.  Urban, Latin and Broadway styles are also taught as students skills advance.  Strong technique and athleticism is required for more advanced leaps, turns and jumps. The focus in jazz is on strength, flexibility, rhythm and energy.  A good dance form for the high-energy student.  C.D.T.A. exams may be offered at all levels. Classes are one-hour minimum.
